Partnership for reconciliation through early childhood education and development in Europe - PRECEDE.

 

Introductory presentation of the regional conference program Partnership for reconciliation through early childhood development and education in Europe

 

Today, February 28, 2013, at the Journalists' Club in Skopje, the First Children's Embassy in the World Megjashi - The Republic of Macedonia held the opening Conference in order to promote the new program Partnership for reconciliation through early childhood development and education in Europe.

The conference aimed to give an overview of the activities that will happen within the program over the next two years, both on national and regional level.

The event was attended by the representatives of related civil society organizations as well as representatives of state institutions. The event was covered by the media.

The conference was facilitated by the project coordinator Dr. Vaska Cvetanoska Panova. Anna Bitoljanu, member of the Board and trainer for nonviolent conflicts, together with Katerina Koneska Programme manager of the Medjashi were the main speakers of the event.

The conference resulted with common conclusions about the formation of a national partnership that will strive to promote acceptance of others, and respect for diversity through early childhood education in Republic of Macedonia and the region.

Partnership for Reconciliation through Early Childhood Education and Development in Europe

Recently, in the media and in public life, the information about the tendencies to divide children on ethnic basis in schools takes very important place. There are many research and assumptions about the main reasons for such tendencies indicating many weaknesses at national and school level. Given that multiculturalism and good inter-ethnic relations are important characteristics of quality education, the First Children's Embassy in the World MEGJASHI, in December 2012 started to implement the regional EU IPA programme-Partnership for reconciliation through early childhood education and development in Europe - PRECEDE.

 

The main caryer of the regional programme is the civil society organization Pomoc deci for Serbia but other 4 civil society organizations fof the Western Balcan and Europa. Exept the First Children's Embassy in the World MEGJASHI - Rpublic of Macedonia, the other three organizations are the following: Partners for Children from Albania, Balkan Sunflowers from Kosovo, The Center for Civil Initiatives from Croatia and Early Years – the organisation for young children form Northern Ireland, UK.

 

The general objective is to support civil society influence over reconciliation process and cohesion through education in early years in the Balkan region and Europe. It will develop a sustainable Balkan Region Network of civil society organisations concerned with young children and promoting acceptance of others and respect for diversity; develop sustainable country level networks of civil society organisations promoting acceptance of others and respect for diversity through early childhood education (ECD) in the Western Balkan region countries; and will link country level networks and the PRECEDE Network of civil society organisations with the International Network for Young Children in Conflict and Post-conflict Countries

The progremme will be inmplemented during the next two years. In thios period different activites will be caried out such as: Research, analysis, training, capacity-building for research, monitoring and analysis, development and implementation of regional and country level advocacy strategies, advocacy tools development and implementation; Analysis of the available programmatic toolkits for activities related to peace building and reconciliation with young children internationally, adapting and piloting the tools for each program country; evaluation of the organisational capacities of the network member NGOs, training and etc.

 

The programme is organized in frame of the regional EU IPA project Partnership for Reconciliation through Early Childhood Education and Development in Europe.
