- The children are vulnerable group in every society. They are involved in the family problems and depend on adults’ steps. That is way the SOS helplines for help gives them opportunity to get help and express their problems. The function of the SOS telephones is very important and significant, because they are significant mechanism of connection with the children, which provides the voice of every boy or girl to be heard. Their mission is to answer upon the children needs for care and protection. It’s good to know that children are only a call away from the help and the support provided.

This week is the world’s day of SOS telephones for help and support of the children in the world.

Megjashi’s representatives explain that young people, students, psychologists, social workers and lawyers, who are engaged in the problem with the children, have very important role for the work of this telephone and in solving the problems of children.

According to the analyses provided in Megjashi, in the 16 years working experience of the embassy 17 407 calls has been registered so far.

Last year 360 calls were registered and took action upon 199 cases. In comparison with the calls from 2007 and those from the last year, unfortunately it’s shown that the abuse and violence upon the children was significantly increased.

The number of telephone calls for violence and abuse of children last year is increased for 25 % in comparison with 2007.

From “Megjashi” sad that they will continue to work actively and follow carefully every single call on the SOS line, and they encourage all children victims of any form of violence not to hide the traumas but immediately to report on the SOS line, which is achieved thanks to Macedonian telecommunications, which provides free services for all callers since 2005.
