The abused girls have been taken care ofThe 4 under-aged girls from Veles, out of which 3 are victimized by their rapist-father, have been taken away from their mother and placed into foster care, in a family outside the city. Although the family has been receiving social pay from the country, the centers for social work were unable to detect the 7-year long sexual abuse of the children. The Minister Bajrami justifies himself saying that there’s no way they could’ve known.

“As long as a report for family violence is not filed, our personnel cannot simply barge into people’s homes. There are 500.000 families in Macedonia that are receive social pay and it is nearly impossible for the services to pay everyone a visit. We are here to take actions where indications exist.” – says Dzelal Bajrami, Minister for labor and social policy.

It is inexcusable that the authorities haven’t investigated into this dysfunctional family which has been under the protection of the Centers for social wok for years, immediately responded the first children’s embassy Megjashi.

“How is it possible that a father rapes his three daughters for seven years, and the Center has not conducted strict surveillance and has not taken away parental rights? We are seeking that the perpetrator receives maximum sentence for incest and violence towards the mother. We are asking for life-long imprisonment, but also actions to be taken with regards to the mother, since it is impossible that she didn’t know about the abuse.” – says Dragi Zmijanac from Megjashi.

“Regardless of whether the abuse from the father will be proven, the country should take measures against both parents.” - stated the Ombudsman through a written reaction. He asked action to be taken immediately to provide psycho-social support, treatment and rehabilitation of the children, as well as to establish the conditions for taking away parental rights. They appeal that it is necessary the children to be protected from any kind of further discrimination.

According to the data, only in the first six months of this year, 43 children have been sexually molested, out of which 31 come from urban regions. The largest part of the abuses has been registered in Negotino.
