Recommendations from the Forum Discussion about Violence and Segregation in SchoolsDate: 28.05.2009

O To organize forum discussions about segregation and violence in schools with all that are working on education in the country (ministry, bureau for development of education, NGO’s, international organizations like OSCE and EU, experts, students, teachers, directors of schools, etc.)

O      To create a classes who stimulates interethnic tolerance and understanding in all levels of education.

O      To create optional lessons in schools for learning the language of other ethnicities.

O      To create bilingual, trilingual schools in ethnically mixed parts of the country to have joint lessons like sports, arts, civil education, etc.

O      To give additional financial support to the universities who are developing curricula in different languages.

O      To create opportunities for students of all ages to express their needs and emotions.

O      To try to change the school climate in a positive way.

O      To give the directors of multiethnic schools a special training on the topics extra curricula’s, organizing excursions, school competitions and cooperation with the local communities.

O      To include the parents in developing of yearly programs.

O      To train all teachers in nonviolent communication in addict   to the subject they teach.

O      To give trainings on parents in the same topic (nonviolent communication).

O       To include lessons about personal development for the students.

O       To create a mechanism who will give the students an opportunity to raise their voice.

O      To create smaller schools and divide the big ones.

O      To have an independent center that will decide on separating schools without any involvement of politics and media.

O      To be aware of the importance of local government and their role in solving problems in schools.  

O      To increase cooperation between teachers and parents in the educational system.

O      To organize joint excursions with all ethnicities.

O       To establish cooperation between institutions and NGO’s who are active in the educational system.

O      To take stronger measures against those individuals who are creating problems in schools.

O      To celebrate together the end of school year (matura).

O      More cooperation between professors and students. 

O       To avoid transforming personal conflicts in the ethnics schools.

O       To avoid abusing the situation in the educational system during elections.

O      To raise and intensify cooperation between schools and families, modernisation of the forms and methods of cooperation to overcome conflicting situations.

O      Intensification of the educative work in schools and acknowledgment of the value of true education.

O      A prevention  of violence is reached with many pedagogical activities and projects as:

·        lessons with latent tasks and objectives create possibilities, build values , common bridges and not division and violence;

·        free activities contain relevant components to eliminate conflicts of division and ease tensions;

·        organizing different activities, festivities, dates, special occasions an bring the pupils together.

O      In case of violence teachers and responsibilities persons must:

·        to have the ability to build interpersonal relations;

·        to be trained to communicate, as communication is an important factor in the global multi-ethnic society;

·        to canalize aggressiveness the pupils are showing

·        decision of borders for the measures and

·         avoidance of sudden outbreaks of emotions
