Children of at most ten years, are taking drugs breathing in glue in a plastic bag, amidst a day on the square in Skopje in moments when it is full of people, this horror was noticed by the night team of Vecer, daily newspaper.

Children filled the plastic bags with glue, while they were sitting on the stalls placed on the square, for the money manifestation for celebrating the world day of fight against AIDS.

When they filled the bags they began breathing in, walking around the crowd. No one noticed them, acting as if it was a normal thing. This terrible scene wasn’t noticed by the police that are regularly patrolling through the center of the city.

The two children were romas, and unfortunately are not the only one, who destroy themselves by taking drugs.

This tragic event is daily routine in our city, and the two children are not the only one. It is a larger group who breathe in glue with years”, says Gordana Cirkoska Zmijanac for the First Children’s Embassy in the world “ Megashi”.

Up to now we have registered them in our evidences a couple of times, and mostly the are moving around Bit Pazar. Imediately after a report by a citizen we repot the case to the police and the center for Social work.

Usually if have the opportunity we try to find their parents if they have address and we provide the name to the center for Social work.

“In this cases when drug addicts are children under 14 years old, they may not be criminally prosecuted, and there is not a lot we can do, says Ivo Kotevski from MVR.

He added that the children are taken to talk in the nearest police station, afterward their parents or guardians are informed together with the Center for Social work.

“ After this procedural a special report is submitted to the prosecutor’s office, for this kind of trespassers”, added Kotevski

According to the First children’s embassy say that there isn’t good strategy for handling this evil.

According to them the Center for social work should be more active, since “Megashi” as an NGO has no authorization in this field of work.

These children became drug addicts very young and they often come in clashes with the law, and almost everyone end up in the attendance center.

Zaklina Velichkovska from the Ministry of Labor and social work explained that she is actively working on this issue and has generally developed strategy for solving of this problem.

“ For this problem the ministry has opened two centers in Skopje and it finances additional two centers dealing with same issues together with a couple of NGOs”, added Velichkovska

According to her, when these children are found by  the police or the workers in the ministry, they are take the children in these centers. The children there are washed, feed and dressed. The professional teams afterwards make their best to solve the problem with these children and their parents

The social workers, police and the people of NGO say that the children most of their day pass on streets and beg are potential delinquents and criminals.
