Rendition of petition to the OmbudsmanThe First Children’s Embassy in the World-Megjashi, Republic of Macedonia directed a petition to Mr. Idjet Memeti, Ombudsman, regarding the political and military abuse of children for agitating and involving in campaign children (younger than 14 years) for entrance of Macedonia in NATO. The organizer of the campaign was the Children’s Embassy for All Children in the World from Prilep and patron was the Minister of Defence of Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Lazar Elenovski.

The First Children’s Embassy in the World-Megjashi, because of this typical example of backing the rights of the children, asked The Minister Lazar Elenovski to resign, and The Children’s Embassy for All Children in the World from Prilep, which is suppose to take care and protect the rights of the children, should be erased from the Registry of Associations of Citizens and Foundations.

In addition we are stating the Articles from the Constitution of republic of Macedonia, The Law for Children Protection and the Law for association of citizens and foundations, that The First Children’s Embassy in the World-Megjashi considers to be broken with the involvement of the children in political goals at the celebration of the Day of the Army of Republic of Macedonia, where children were included in the agitation and political campaign for entrance of Macedonia in NATO under the motto “Macedonia in NATO-we the Children their gold”.

It is our opinion that the following articles have been broken:

-Art. 3 from the Convention on the Rights of the Children;

-Art. 42 of the Constitution of Republic of Macedonia

Republic of Macedonia provides special protection to motherhood, children and minors.

-Art. 118 of the Constitution of Republic of Macedonia

International contracts ratified in accordance to the Constitution are part of the interior legal regulation and can not be changed by a law.

-Art. 9 of the Law for Child Protection (Official Gazette no. 98/2000 from 23.11.2000)

It is forbidden political and religious organization and acting and abuse of children because of political or religious organization and acting.

-Art. 3 of the Law for Associations of Citizens and Foundations (Official Gazette no.31/98 from 02.07.1998)

Associations of citizens and foundations can not perform political activities or use their property and resources for achieving goals of political parties.

The Parliament of Republic of Macedonia has adopted The Declaration for protection the rights of the child from political manipulation and abuse brought in 1991.

We expect that the Ombudsman will inform us about the action that will be taken.
