The First Children's Embassy in the World 'Megjashi' alerts governments and civil society organizations to play a more active role in the promotion of and respect for the rights of the child of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and contribute to the prevention of child abuse.

Child abuse, especially sexual abuse, is a universal and alarming problem and increased attention and efficient protection skills and prevention measures are necessary at family, local, national and international level.

In 2009, Megjasi conducted a survey on the theme “Perception of Children on Their Rights, Discrimination and Violence Against Children” involving 2,234 children at age 10-18.

The results showed that more than 70 percent of school-aged children are not aware of their rights; 41.6 percent said they witnessed domestic violence,; and 57 percent said they know other children who were beaten by teachers at school.

Based on data from SOS phone calls made in 2009, 48.3 percent of calls revealed abuse and violence against children (physical, psychological, sexual), up 9 percent from 2008.

The First Children's Embassy Megjasi is an international organization and active member and supporter of the Women's World Summit Foundation (WWSF).

WWSF launched in 2000 the World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse, a Day to be commemorated every 19 November in synergy with the anniversary of the International Day for the rights of the child (20 November), which has as its objective to be a rallying point around the issue of child abuse and the need for urgent effective prevention programs.
